A group of lawyers suing Syngenta Seeds is holding Lost Corn Income meetings all over the country asking farmers to join their lawsuit. One of those meetings will take place in Stuart this week. Mikal Watts is one of the attorneys representing the group that’s claiming Syngenta was misleading in marketing corn that can’t be sold to China. “This is a lawsuit about the realities of our world economic system. Syngenta knew it needed to do one of two things. It either needed to get advanced approval from all of our trading partners, or it needed to be absolutely transparent with the American corn farmer. So, when that farmer’s making the decision to buy Syngenta seed, or seed from somebody else, they know what the implications are. They were not given the information that they should have been given and that’s why we’re bringing this claim.”
The meeting is free for anybody to attend and will take place Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Stuart Americinn.

Guthrie Center’s 50115 Fest will likely be back next year and beyond. Main Street Guthrie Center Director Julie Bailey says this time around, the event likely won’t be on May 1st. “The discussion right now is that we would move it to late June. People really enjoyed it. It was a good event, even though it was a rainy day. It was a nice event for Guthrie Center so we certainly want to continue that.”
Bailey adds that Main Street is always seeking volunteers to help with planning events like 50115 Fest. For more information, call Bailey at 641-332-2674.
