Sign up is currently underway for Perry Youth Football and Youth Cheerleading. The Parks and Recreation Department is once again handling the Fall football league which is open for kids ranging from kindergarten to 4th grade. Program Coordinator Becky Towers says the feedback on the popular fall sport has always been positive.
“Football is such a fun sport at this age. They get to hang out with some of the older kids and the parents can socialize at the games. The kids are able to learn the fundamentals of the game in a safe environment and most importantly have fun doing it.”
Cheerleading continues to grow in popularity and like football, doesn’t require a lot of time. Both football and cheerleading require just 1 hour of practice time each week along with 1 game every Thursday night.
“This year we are really excited to have two Perry High School Cheerleaders serving as the coaches of our cheerleading program. The kids get to learn cheers and come to the games and cheer on the sideline like they would at a high school game. The kids really have fun with it.”
The deadline to sign up your child for youth football or cheerleading is August 31st. Games will start in early September.
