voteDallas County residents who have never voted in the County or have moved since the last election need to be registered in order to vote in the special election on Tuesday.

If you haven’t yet done so, it is possible to register at the polls if you come prepared.

Iowa voters need to prove both their identity and residence.  Those who are not registered must provide a valid photo ID such as a driver’s license, passport or an ID issued by the military, your employer or your school.

In addition, to prove residency voters need to bring a document that shows both their name and current address.  This can be a residential lease or mortgage statement, utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check or property tax statement.

This proof needs to come in the form of paper documents as electronic proof such as documents on a cell phone will not be accepted.

Anyone who provides false information when registering to vote can be charged with Election Misconduct in the First Degree, which is a felony punishable of up to five years in prison and a $7,500 fine.
