Those who want to know more about Perry’s history will soon be able to digitally access decades worth of news publications at the Perry Public Library.
Director Mary Murphy says it’s a project that they have been working on for quite some time.
“This is a digital copy of all the publishing history that’s available for the newspaper publishing in Perry. I hesitate to say The Perry Chief because it has been called different things and at one time there were two newspapers in Perry, but it’s from 1874 to 2013.”
With that large amount of information, Murphy says she plans to hold a workshop to teach people how to best utilize the program.
“I’ll be teaching people how to find things. You really want to have an advanced search instead of a simple search because 1874 to 2013 is a lot of data!”
Murphy says the project has dragged on because they were waiting for updated software but for now they’ve chosen to go with the original program and the software will be updated free of charge once it’s available.
