The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During the open forum, Jefferson VFW Post Commander Don Ihnken told the Board the roof on the VFW Hall has been repaired, which part of the funding came from the Louis Dreyfus funds from the Board.
Resident Shane Olson said he is still dealing with individuals using engine brakes unnecessarily by his home. The Board agreed to go through the process to establish a countywide ordinance prohibiting jake brakes.
The Supervisors then approved several agenda items. They approved the annual County jail inspection report, appointed Brett Michael as the County’s mental health advocate with the County’s portion of payment of $19.50 per hour and resetting Drainage District 190’s assessment from two percent to 1.5 percent to maintain $2,500 in reserves.
The Board then passed a 4-1 vote for the County’s commitment to a public art initiative for the Raccoon River Valley Trail. Deb McGinn with the Raccoon River Valley Trail Association told the Board that they are wanting to put public art pieces at the trailheads of Jefferson, Cooper, Winkelman Switch and possibly by the High Trestle Bridge. The Board previously approved a letter of support along with a $25,000 financial commitment, pending grant funding. The organization received a grant and the asking amount for the County was reduced to $22,000. After much discussion, the Board decided to provide matching funds, over a three year period, with no more than $11,000 to come from both the Dreyfus funds and the Conservation Reserve funds.
