Jefferson Police DeptA Bagley man faces several charges stemming from a two vehicle hit and run accident Sunday afternoon.

The Greene County Sheriff’s office and Jefferson Police Department responded to the report of a crash at the intersection of Highway 30 and M Avenue around 2:30pm.

80 year-old Jerry Dean Vincent of Jefferson was heading southbound on M Avenue in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado.  When Vincent was approaching the Highway 30 stop sign a 2000 Ford Focus, driven by 23 year-old Nicholas Anthony Balderas of Bagley, attempted to turn onto M Avenue from Highway 30 and struck Vincent’s pickup.

Balderas left the scene of the accident and reportedly pulled into the garage in the 900 block North Pinet Street in Jefferson.  According to Jefferson Police, Balderas jumped out of a bedroom window and fled the home when an officer was at the front door.  Officers found Balderas shortly after 5pm at another residence in the same block of Pinet Street.  He was placed under arrest and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd offense, Interference with Official Acts, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Driving while License Denied/Suspended/Canceled/Revoked.

No one was injured in the crash, though Vincent’s pickup sustained an estimated $5,500 in damages, along with another $3,500 in damage to the Focus.
