perry logoMosquitos continue to be an issue across the area, thanks in part to the wet spring and summer we’ve experienced.

In an effort to combat the bugs, Perry’s Deputy Public Works Director Josh Wuebker says they’re still spraying for mosquitos twice per week, which they’ve never done before.

“So we made the decision that they’re this bad so let’s spend the money and have it done, because it is expensive.   We spend about $12,000 per year just for the three months or so of mosquito spraying.”

So Wuebker says even if you don’t hear them out at night, it is being done.

“We got a new machine this year.  Our old one was like a regular motor and stuff, this one is actually electric and it runs off (a Global Positioning System), so the faster you go the more chemicals it puts out and the slower you go the less chemicals it puts out.  The other thing is, it’s quiet, you can’t hear it at all.  So a lot of people are used to hearing that told machine and they’re calling and thinking we’re not spraying, but really we are.”

Wuebker says after this week they will likely go back to the standard of only one spray every 7 days.
