Starting tomorrow, the Greene County Community Center will receive a much needed improvement.
Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says the entire lighting system will be replaced with new LED lights. Work to replace all 36 light fixtures and the security lights will start tomorrow. While the lights are being replaced, Lautner points out that the gym will be closed, but people can still use the walking track and weight room.
Lautner notes that this is a major overhaul, since they last replaced the bulbs about five years ago.

“They were so old that the bulbs were not within the standards. If a bulb would break, it would come down on a person. We replaced them with bulbs that were within a bulb, so the inside bulb would break, then the other bulb would catch it.”
Earlier this year, the Parks and Recreation Board approved Durlam Electric’s bid to replace the lights and the fixtures for $23,664. Lautner says switching to LED lights will help to reduce the building’s monthly utility costs and maintenance and the lights will last for 100,000 hours.
The project is expected to take three days.
