The Greene County Rams softball team will enter its first round of the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union state tournament in Fort Dodge tomorrow.
The Rams will head into their first game with a 30-6 record and a number four ranking in Class 3A against Crestwood. Head coach Tom Kennedy says they were ranked the entire season, after finishing last season unranked. He points out that it was extra pressure staying ranked all year, but his players handled it well.
“We didn’t really focus on it, we just continued to try and get better, and that was kind of our focus as a team. We had enough success that we didn’t drop down very far in the rankings when we did lose a couple games. So it’s a real tribute to the girls and how hard they work and how much effort they put in in the offseason to continue to improve.”
After a third place finish in the state tournament last year, Kennedy notes that the girls played with more confidence. He adds that making to the state tournament takes some pressure off, but they need to continue to play their style of game in order to be competitive at this year’s tournament.

Kennedy believes they have a strong batting order and tough defense to hopefully improve on their third place finish last year.
The Rams will play 25-5 Crestwood on Tuesday at 5:30pm at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge. KGRA will bring you live coverage of the game on 98.9FM and on raccoonvalleyradio.com.
