As we’ve reported, it’s a busy summer in the Perry Schools with several projects going on across the district.
At Monday’s meeting, the school board added another project to the list, the replacement of boilers at the middle school.
Superintendent Lynn Ubben says with the parking lot project at the elementary school and the gym roof replacement project going on at the high school, this was the next step in things to get completed.
“The middle school boilers are something that has been on our radar for a while. I think (Buildings and Grounds Director) Kevin (McLaughlin) said 1977 is when they were last purchased. So we went out and got that bid and they’ll get those ordered and that process will begin. So all of our buildings are under construction.”
At the meeting McLaughlin also mentioned that the District may need to replace a boiler at the high school soon as well.
“(The high school) was built in 2002 so in your head you’re thinking, so the middle school boilers are from 1977 and we’re just replacing them? So Kevin said sometimes newer things don’t last as long. We have already replaced one high school boiler and we have another one that we need to replace, so that’s an additional piece that we need to look at.”
McLaughlin plans to speak with Drees Company out Carroll who was awarded the contract for the middle school boilers to see if the District can get a deal on the third one for the high school.
We will wrap up our conversation with Ubben on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on AM 1310 KDLS and the new 99.7 FM.
