Severe thunderstorms barreled through the Raccoon Valley region Wednesday night, dropping golf ball sized hail, threatening with several tornadic funnel clouds and knocking down tree limbs with winds in excess of 70 miles per hour. Additionally, MidAmerican Energy reports that 223 households in Guthrie County, 161 in Dallas County and 170 in Greene County were without power during the storm. Most customers had service returned to them by the time the storms exited the area. Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says that damage is minimal but it’s best to stay out of work crews way as they clean up. “Probably the best thing to do is, if they don’t need to go out, just stay in so that the little bit of damage we have, we can get cleaned up. I don’t think we have a lot, but the more they stay out of the way, the quicker we can get it done.”

Six members of Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team brought you live coverage for two hours, from about 6:30-8:30 p.m., when the weather was at its worst for the region. Additional live coverage took place from 10-10:30 p.m. and from 12:28-1:35 a.m. Whenever severe weather threatens Guthrie, Greene or Dallas Counties, tune into the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
