Nevitt Pitches Perry to Opening Round Victory in Southwest Iowa…Jays Go 1-1

The Perry baseball team defeated Treynor Saturday 5-2 before losing to Atlantic in the championship game 10-3 in the annual Atlantic Trojan Tournament.

Kyle Nevitt earned the win against the Cards allowing one earned run on five hits in 6 innings pitched.  Will Whiton earned the save with two strikeouts in the final frame.  Offensively, Whiton finished with two hits and two stolen bases, while preseason All-State catcher Zach Roberts delivered a pair of hits including a double and 2 RBI’s.  Adan Medina pushed across a pair of RBI’s as well.

In game two, Atlantic scored 6 times in the bottom of the 5th inning to defeat Perry 10-3.  Kade Van Kirk led the Bluejays with three hits while Blake Lansing added a pair of hits.  Nic Wilhelmi and Roberts added singles.  Janier Puente went 3 2/3 allowing 2 earned runs on 6 hits and 5 walks.  Alex Long and Lansing finished the game on the mound for Perry.

The Bluejays (10-4) will travel to Gilbert Tuesday night before returning to RRC action Wednesday at ADM.
