Perry sophomore Emma Olejniczak enjoyed the two-day Woodward Granger Classic this past weekend pitching Perry to victories against both Madrid and Council Bluffs Lewis Central before losing an extra inning 2-1 marathon to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln.   Perry finished the tournament 2-2 with a final game loss to Woodward Granger 8-4.

Olejniczak started the tournament in style combining with Sidney Vancil for a no-hitter in Perry’s 2-1 win over Madrid.  Olejniczak pitched the first four innings and returned in the 6th to earn the victory.  She walked three and struck out 10 Tigers.  The Perry offense managed three hits with Rachel Kinney, Alyssa Kruger and Johanna Diw all finishing with base hits.

The second game Friday featured a pitching duel between Olejniczak and AL’s Lauren Nahnsen.  The Lady Lynx won the game in the bottom of the 9th inning 2-1.  Perry’s right hander went all 8 1/3 innings allowing only 3 hits, and 1 walk while posting 13 strikeouts.  Nahnsen allowed only 5 Perry hits while striking out only 3 in 9 innings.  The two teams went to the international rule in the 8th inning with a runner starting at second base.  Diw took advantage of the rule delivering an RBI single to score Vancil to give Perry a 1-0 lead in the 8th inning.  AL tied the game in the bottom of the 8th inning taking advantage of a costly throwing error.  The Lynx ended the contest in the 9th with Nahnsen delivering the game winning double.

On Saturday, Perry blanked Lewis Central 2-0.  Olejniczak held the Titans to 3 hits and struck out 12 batters.  Perry scored both of their runs on Titan errors with Rachel Kinney and Vancil scoring the runs.

Olejniczak did not start the finale with Woodward Granger and the Hawks took advantage scoring an 8-4 victory over Perry.  Perry discovered their offense as both Diw and Victoria Hegstrom launched solo home runs.  Vancil pitched all 6 innings for Perry as Head Coach Tina Kenney rested her sophomore ace.

Olejniczak’s final tourney numbers were impressive allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run in 21 1/3 innings.  She finished with 35 strikeouts.

Perry (3-11) will travel to Gilbert Tuesday night and ADM Wednesday night.
