When it comes to Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball, Greene County and PCM (Monroe) have both been at or near the top of the standings in recent seasons. Three seasons ago, the Rams and Mustangs, tied for first place, then North Polk (Alleman) joined those two in 2013 for a three-way first place tie. Last season, PCM won the title outright by one game over the Rams. So far this season, Coach Tom Kennedy’s team is 8-0 in the conference and 12-1 overall and is ranked third in class 3A. PCM started the season ranked number 11 in 3A, but has found the going rough and they are in need of an upset of the Rams to stay in the top four of the 10 team league. The two teams meet tonight around 7:30 p.m. in Monroe. Greene County won 2-0 in the first meeting this season on May 28 in Jefferson.
The Rams will be trying to bounce back from their first loss of the season, an 8-2 defeat in Le Grand on Friday night at the hands of number five East Marshall in a rematch of the 2014 State Tournament third place game, won by Greene County 10-3.
