We’ve told you about the Perry Lions and Optimist Club’s current effort to increase patriotism by setting up flags throughout Perry on various holidays. Well next week the whole downtown area will be flooded with American flags.
Perry Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bob Wilson says it will be a neat spectacle to see.
“There’s an old tradition with businesses (where when a new business would open they would line the streets with flags), and you can see it on the sidewalks actually where the old flag poles were, but they’re going to line the downtown kind of as a reminder of the past as well as a reminder that there’s still time for you to sign up for $25 to have this flag service for five holidays throughout the year. It just has such a huge impact.”
The flags will be on both sides of 2nd Street between Willis and Pattee Streets for one week starting Sunday.
Anyone wanting to take part in the holiday flag service project can contact Lions Club President Dave Wright at 240-7281.
