For the second time in four games, the Perry offense hit double digits Monday night defeating state runner up and preseason number 2 Dallas Center Grimes 10-6. Perry scored three times in the first inning taking advantage of starter Matt Startwell control issues. Startwell walked two and hit another before exiting after facing just four batters. Kyle Nevitt delivered a two run single off reliever Brady Brecht to highlight the big start.
The Jays put the game away in the fifth inning scoring five times. Janier Puente delivered the big blow smashing a line drive two run home run over the left field wall to give Perry their largest lead of the night at 10-5.
Kyle Nevitt picked up the win going 4 1/3 innings, allowing 6 hits and 5 earned runs. Janier Puente earned the save going 2 2/3 with 3 strikeouts. The Perry defense sparkled all night long with Nic Wilhelmi leading the way at 2nd base turning a critical double play in a one out bases loaded situation late in the game. Brandon Kenyon made a key catch in left field earlier in the contest.
Nevitt continued his early season tear, finishing with three more hits. Nevitt is now 9-14 on the season. Will Whiton reached base 4 times and added two rbi.
Perry improves to 3-1 and will travel to Carroll Wednesday night for the RRC opener.
