ADM senior sprinter Kari Dufoe made it two state championships in two events Saturday at the 2015 Iowa high school track and field state meet, winning the 100m and 200m dash titles less than an hour apart.
Dufoe took 1st in the 200m dash with a time of 24.74 seconds to blow out of the field at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The second-place finisher, West Delware’s Emily Thole, was more than a half-second behind at 25.41 seconds.
Approximately 40 minutes earlier, Dufoe clocked 12.70 seconds in the 100m dash to win that title, becoming ADM’s first individual state champion since 2003. She was more than three-tenths of a second faster than second-place Katie Foster of Charles City.
Dufoe took second and third at last year’s state 100m and 200m dashes, respectively, and looked primed for a big state meet after running well at the conference and district meets despite still working her way back from injury.
Dufoe registered a Class 3A-record 12.23 seconds in Thursday’s 100m dash preliminaries with the wind at her back. Running against the wind on Saturday, her time increased but was good enough to secure the first-place finish.
