The Guthrie Center community continues to work to honor and preserve the memory of Zach Meacham, the teenager killed in a fatal truck accident last month. Caleb Finnegan went to school with Meacham and says the community is selling raffle tickets for a hog in order to raise money to build the a new poultry barn at the County fairgrounds, in Meacham’s honor. He says his former classmate loved to raise and show chickens at the fair. “His uncle got him some chickens and he got a ‘How to Raise Chickens for Dummies’ book that he read front to back, and from that point on he could tell you anything about chickens. He showed chickens every year at the County Fair from then until this year. He always took a lot of chickens and he always took great pride in them, no matter what color ribbon they received.”
Raffle tickets for the hog cost $20 and include all of the processing for the hog, at a locker of the winner’s choice. They can be purchased at Guthrie Center High School. The drawing will take place on Monday, May 25th. Finnegan will be our guest today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County to talk more about the fundraising effort. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com
