Guthrie Center star athlete Sydney Danker has already walked across the stage and received her diploma. In the fall, she’ll be a Division I volleyball player at Northern Illinois University. Before she jumps to the next level, she has to finish her high school athletic career, which properly will take place at a college stadium. Danker is one of several Guthrie Center girl track athletes heading to the State meet at Drake Stadium later this week and her head coach Dave Spratte says her leadership drives her teammates towards success. “Overall, I’m just really happy for Syd. She’s not had much of a supporting cast, she’s done it on her own. This year she qualifies in the 400 lows for the third straight year. She’s also leading off our shuttle hurdle and our 4×100 meter relay. She’s been a great kid and a great leader all through high school.”
Guthrie Center will have the following athletes competing in the State meet, which begins Thursday; Rachel Rumelhart in the 200 meter dash and 100 meter hurdles, Sydney Danker in the 400 meter hurdles, the 4×100 meter hurdle relay team of Sydney Danker, Mady Smith, Leighan Laughery and Rachel Rumelhart and the 4×100 meter relay of Danker, Rumelhart, Smith and Foentes.
