The final step before making it to state has finally arrived, as both the ADM boys and girls track teams head to Norwalk Thursday afternoon for a Class 3A District Meet.
Coming off a second-place finish at the Raccoon River Conference meet on Saturday, the girls team in particular has a good chance of sending several athletes to Drake Stadium in Des Moines next weekend.
Senior Kari Dufoe, who holds the fastest times in Class 3A in the 100m (12.25 second) and 200m (25.27) dashes, is a virtual lock to make her second consecutive trip to state. She placed second and third, respectively, in those same events at last year’s state meet.
Other ADM girls track athletes with a decent chance of making the state meet include Brianna Mueller in the 800m, 1,500m and 3,000m runs, Erica Baier in the discus, Sydney Bertman in the long jump.
The Tigers also could qualify a relay or two, most likely its 4 x 100 group of Maggi Bjustrom, Sami Schepers, Bertman and Olivia Anderson. That relay team registered a time of 50.43 seconds at the conference meet, the second fastest time in Class 3A this season.
