Jefferson’s Spring Clean Up Week is this Week

Jefferson residents are reminded that from April 27th through the 30th is the city-wide spring cleanup week.

City crews will pick up items that are at the curbside during your normal garbage pickup day.  This service is provided twice a year for residents to get rid of unwanted materials.

City Administrator Mike Palmer says each resident is allowed two free hopper loads and anything beyond that, the homeowner will be charged $25 per hopper load.

Yard waste must be put in biodegradable bags and Palmer notes that if it is in a plastic bag, it will not be picked up.  Residents are not required to mark their yard waste during clean up week.  Tree trimmings can not exceed ten-inches in diameter and must be in armload piles with the cut ends facing the street.  Whole trees will not be picked up.

Lumber and construction debris is limited to five feet in length and must be tied into 50-pound piles.  Furniture, carpet, padding and windows will also be picked up.

Palmer notes that appliances that contain freon will have an additional $40 charge and for all other appliances, there will be a $25 charge.

Palmer urges everyone to put their items in their respective piles to ensure pick up.

“We ask everybody to neatly pile it by the curb.  If things are just loose and running all over the yard, the City retains the option not to pick it up.  We really ask that you be as courteous as you can with it.”

Anyone with questions may call City Hall during normal business hours at 386-3111.
