Perry Fine Arts Presents Lyra in Concert Tonight
There’s another free entertainment option in Perry tomorrow evening.
Perry Fine Arts presents Lyra, a vocal quintet from the Russian Orthodox Church tomorrow night in the Perry Performing Arts Center.
Organizer Duane Griffin says it’s a unique opportunity for local residents to see entertainment from another culture and perhaps learn something about the language.
“Half the concert will be music from the Russian Orthodox Church and the other half will be Russian folk music. All of the music and words will be in Russian but in between the songs there will be explanations and everything in English, so you know what’s going on and what the song is about.”
Griffin says Russian music is known for being very beautiful and these singers are well trained.
“The Russian Orthodox Church does not allow instruments in their church services. So all of the singing in the churches is a cappella, without instruments. So tradition is these people get very good at singing without instruments (backing them).”
Tomorrow’s concert takes place at 7pm and there’s no cost to attend, though donations are appreciated to help support future events.
