A lot of well-deserved attention has been paid to the offensive exploits of the ADM boys soccer team’s dynamic duo of Derek Gushiken and Noah Bardwell, who have carried the load in terms of goals and assists this season for the Tigers.
Gushiken in particular has been a revelation. The senior and four-year varsity starter spent his first three seasons setting up the offense from his center-mid position, but this season, has become the team’s number one scoring option. He’s already surpassed his previous career-high in goals.
Tigers head coach Bill Shields was asked what other players have been making key contributions while flying under the radar.
“Well I think Connor Luther would have to be way up there, and Bryce Bodwin and Matthew Oberruetter are working really hard in the middle of the pack, winning balls and setting other ups,” Shields said. “You could say that they’ve taken over part of what Derek’s responsibility was before, in now they’re getting the ball to him or somebody else and the goal gets set up from there.”
The Tigers will go for their fifth consecutive win at 7:30 p.m. Monday night at Williams Stadium in Des Moines against Des Moines East.
