After six weeks of practices and two indoor meets, the ADM boys track team will compete in its first outdoor meet of the season on Friday at Winterset.
Tigers head coach Raccoon Valley Radio described this season as a “transition year” because of the loss of several standout seniors and the relative youth of the team. Of the 31 athletes on the roster, 18 are underclassmen. Among that 18 are 12 sophomores, the largest individual class.
With that in mind, Whisner said he expects his lineup to look different for at least the first few meets as he shuffles around younger athletes to find their ideal fits. This first meet will set the table for what those freshmen and sophomores can accomplish this season.
“Obviously we have a good feeling for who’s going to be in what events,” Whisner said. “Really, that first meet is going to give a lot of kids an opportunity to get a time in an event that they want to be successful in, and then we kind of establish our goals from there. That’s what we’re kind of looking at for Friday night.”
