The ADM girls track and field team has its first meet of the season Monday with an indoor invite at Iowa State University. It’s somewhat odd timing considering ADM, along with many other schools around the state, is on spring break.
The girls are not mandated to be there, and some will miss Monday’s invite. That’s OK by head coach Bart Mueller, as long as the girls are careful not to ruin the progress they’ve made by going on a trip and not taking care of their bodies.
“I think we have seen it occasionally over the years, whether it be spring break or somebody taking a trip for a week,” Mueller said. “Sometimes when you’re not with your team, there’s not that accountability. So we’ll even send out an email, because we kind of get the parents involved: ‘OK, you’re the coach now, if they’re not in town, you’re the coach, you keep them working out.’
“Because they come back, and we do have one week to train but then it’s full bore. Meets start up at the end of March outdoors, and it gets really busy. So they’ll want to keep the progress they made this past month.”
