The Perry girls track team has seen a recent spike in numbers this year with a number of new faces coming out for the sport for the first time combined with some familiar faces looking to improve off last season’s performance.  Matt Hardy is in his first year as Jayette Head Coach and convinced a lot of the kids to come out simply for the benefits that track can offer.

“I told the kids that I’m an experienced track coach and that I ran track in college so I can bring a lot of ideas to the table.  The program will be fun this year as we will mix things up and not use the same structure each and every day in practice.  Running can be repetitive at times and we want to try and break that up.  The other angle that I used was simply how this sport can make you better for the other sports.  Being faster and quicker will only carry over to the success of some of the other sports such as softball, volleyball and basketball.”

Perry reported 32 kids out for track and field this year.
