With warmer temperatures, several golf courses are opening their seasons early.
The Jefferson Community Golf Course is one of them. The original plan was to have the course opened by April 1st, but the spring-like temperatures allowed manager Micah Destival to open it about three weeks early. He adds that the course is open for walkers and golf carts.
He urges everyone to keep up-to-date with their new website.
“They can check our website, we’ll have a status of the day thing in the spring here to let people know if they can come out or not. But I would anticipate that we’ll be open for a week here (and) we’ll shut down for a day or two here and there. Pay attention to our golfjefferson.com website for the status of the day.”
City Administrator Mike Palmer says there are two incentives that people can take advantage of at the golf course. One is a punch pass for people to use at several City-owned facilities. Palmer points out that if you are a member of the golf course or the Greene County Community Center, you can receive 25 free trips to either facility and the Jefferson Municipal Swimming Pool. The pass can be used by anyone and the owner doesn’t need to be present. However, once the pass is used up, the owner will not receive a new one for the rest of the year. The other incentive to draw people from outside the County is offering a discount on memberships if you belong to another golf course.
Lakeside Golf Course General Manager Daniel Fitzpatrick says they are also open the rest of this week for those who want to walk. They are hopeful to open the clubhouse by next week. Check their website, http://lakesidegolfcourse.weebly.com and their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/lakesidegolfcourse1 for more details. The Hill Golf Course that’s west of Grand Junction is also open for walkers with plans to open the clubhouse later in the spring.
We’ll have more with Destival on today’s Let’s Talk Greene County program which airs during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on KGRA.
