Greene County hasn’t had even one indoor track and field meet yet and the outdoor season is still three weeks away, but the coaches and athletes have been outdoors in recent days practicing in nicer weather than anyone could have imagined. This time a week ago day time highs were well below freezing and lows were below zero, but the thermometer reached 70 above in Jefferson on Tuesday. Girls’ head coach Kelly Simpson said being on the track and practicing in warm weather is a huge advantage. “We’re going over hurdles, we’re practicing (relay) exchanges, we have the high jump pit out, This weather just really makes for a much better practice situation than in the recent past.”
The Rams plan on taking a select number of girls to Ames for the Iowa State University high school indoor meet on Monday, March 16. Greene County plans on taking a much larger number of squad members to Storm Lake on March 20 for the Buena Vista University high school indoor meet.
