The Perry wrestling team is extremely confident heading into Saturday’s 2A District at Huxley.  The Bluejays will look to qualify five wrestlers for the state tournament which gets underway in Des Moines next Thursday.  Perry will send 5 sectional champions into competition.  Freshman Zach Thompson has been dominant this year with 42 wins.  Thompson was one of two Bluejays to win earlier this week in the Regional Semifinal dual with Clear Lake.  Junior Kade Van Kirk will look to make it 3 for 3 in state tournaments.  Van Kirk is 43-11 and will look to shake off a dual meet loss to Clear Lake earlier this week.  126 pounder Gisaveri Niyibizi is 32-9 on the season and 132 pounder Ivan Garcia is peaking at the right time having won 10 of his last 11 matches.  Garcia is 24-22 on the season.  Perry’s fifth qualifier is junior Jacob Thompson who is 27-16.  Wrestling begins at 12 noon with the top two individuals moving on to the state tournament.  There are four wrestlers in each weight class.
