ADM wrestling will look to keep the team-portion of its season going tonight at the Class 2A regional duals. The Tigers, ranked #48, have a tough test against the No. 1 ranked Union High School Knights in LaPorte City.

The Tigers won the Class 2A Sectional 6 title on Saturday, with seven ADM wrestlers headed to the district tournament this Saturday in Huxley. That earned them a spot in the regional duals, which is their chance to fulfill their preseason goal of being one of eight teams at the state duals tournament in Des Moines.

To upset the Knights, the Tigers will need their top wrestlers to perform as such. That includes the Tigers highest-ranked wrestlers, junior Zach Johnston – No. 3 at 160 pounds in Class 2A by the predicament.com – and senior Trevor Harsh, ranked No. 4 at 138 pounds.

The duo missed a pair of duals and the Ed Winger Classic between January 22 and 27 due to injury, which Tigers head coach Justin Schmauss said was a blessing in disguise, especially when considering how much work the two put in year-round.

“They seem right where they need to be. I think that break was actually good for them,” Schmauss said. “It gave them a chance to get a mental rest, rest physically and just be ready for this push here at the end. They seem to be right where they need to be.”

Because neither wrestler’s injuries were serious enough to end their season, both have picked up post-injury where they left off before getting hurt, as both Harsh and Johnston captured sectional titles.

ADM has four ranked wrestlers overall to Union’s six, including a pair of top-ranked seniors at the 145-pound (Max Thompson) and 170-pound (Jacob Holschlag) classes. Johnston should have a competitive bout against fifth-ranked Trevor McLaughlin.
