A warm Saturday meant several participants for this year’s Bike Ride to Rippey event.
Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert helped out with traffic control on Iowa Highway 144 as bike riders entered Rippey. He says he likes to help out with BRR whenever he can.
“And I always enjoy that crossing (Highway 144), because of having been on several RAGBRAI’s and knowing other residents of Greene and Dallas counties that get on the BRR ride, it’s kind of an enjoyable time. I get to see people that I haven’t seen for maybe a year or so.”
Once participants arrive in Rippey, a beverage tent greets them at the fire station along with food options from the Lion’s Club in the community center and a youth group at the United Methodist Church. Haupert points out that for Rippey, its a great opportunity to get extra exposure.
“It’s a time for them to bring in a little extra cash. (It) puts Rippey on the map there for a few hours each year and gives them a little publicity and it always works real well. It’s a well managed event.”
There are also safety precautions for the riders to take if they can’t make it back to Perry where the ride starts. Haupert notes that there are team buses on site and the Perry Police Department brings their sag wagon to take individuals back.
Haupert would like to thank everyone, especially other law enforcement agencies, for their help in making BRR have another successful year.
