Adair and Guthrie County’s Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf has some safety tips on how you can keep your kids safe in the kitchen during National Burn Awareness Week. “One of the biggest things is to create a no-kids zone while you’re cooking. Making sure that they’re not around the stoves and the ovens, and making sure you’re keeping hot food and drinks away from the edges of tables and counters.”
Kempf says the week also promotes safe habits that many may forget about, such as setting your water heater at or less than 120 degrees fahrenheit. In addition to lessening the risk of being scalded, you’ll also be saving money over people who keep their water heater at a higher temperature.
