The ADM Tigers girls and boys basketball teams will be out for revenge tonight against Ballard after both were embarrassed by the bombers back on Dec. 19 in Huxley. The girls lost to the No. 4-ranked Bombers 63-29, while to boys allowed a season-high in points for both teams in their 84-52 loss. Both teams will take another crack at the bombers tonight in Adel.
The Ballard girls have not slowed down since their domination of the Tigers. The Bombers started the season 11-0 before suffering their only loss of the season by eight at No. 3 Carlisle on January 16, and have since rattled off four straight wins.
Ballard, which has won its game by a Class-4A best average margin of 25.8 points per game, is lead by senior Emily Knittel (14.9 PPG) and junior Gabbie Doud (14.6). ADM’ loss to Ballard was the start of a six-game losing streak, in which the offense struggled mightily. Since then, the Tigers have gone 4-1, their only loss to a ranked Pella team on the road by six points, and have averaged 53 points per game in their last seven games.
The ADM boys’ loss to Ballard in December, on the other hand, is a little more difficult to figure out. Ballard, at 7-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play, has been up and down all season largely due to a mediocre offense. The Bombers average just 54.4 points per game on 42 percent shooting, but against the Tigers back in December, exploded for 84 points on 57 percent shooting and a 31-of-34 performance from the free-throw line.
Since beating ADM, the Bombers have struggled in conference play, going 2-4, though they are riding high after a victory over the first-place Perry Blue Jays Tuesday night at home, 72-63. The Tigers (3-12 overall) have the conference’s worst defense in terms of points allowed, and will be looking to right that ship and improve upon their 3-6 conference record.
The girls will tip at 6 p.m. and the boy game will follow, with pregame coverage on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com beginning at 5:45 p.m. tonight.
