It certainly lived up to all the pregame hype. In a match up of two top ranked girls basketball teams, Ballard defeated Perry 52-50 in RRC action Tuesday night. Emily Knittel’s three point play with 23 seconds to go gave the Bombers the two point victory. Perry led only twice on the night after starting the fourth quarter down ten points. With both Claire Marburger and Amy Marckres playing with four fouls, the Jayettes caught fire in the fourth quarter as Grace Marburger hit a pair of threes in a three minute span and Claire Marburger added 6 points in that same span. Perry took a 50-49 lead with a little more than two minutes to go but could not convert on a pair of one and one free throw situations. After missing the front end twice, Ballard was able to get the ball to Knittel as the senior drove down the right side scoring a hoop and drawing the foul. A free throw later, Ballard led 52-50 and Perry could not answer.
It was a nice bounce back performance for the Jayettes after Friday night’s 25 point loss to Carlisle. Maggie Lowe looked good in her return to the lineup while the younger Marburger added 12 points after leaving the Carlisle game with a head injury.
Claire Marburger led the way with 24 points while Knittel scored a game high 26 points. Perry falls to 12-4 and 6-3 in the RRC, while Ballard improves to 15-1 and 8-1 in RRC action.
