Back by popular demand, the Dallas County Conservation Board is hosting a Maple Syruping – Tree Tapping program next month.
It takes place Saturday, February 14th from 9-10:30am at the Kuehn Conservation Area. After maple trees are dormant in the winter months, they respond to the increasing daylight hours and warmer temperatures by sending sap through their systems.
If the program is timed correctly, participants should be able to siphon off some of the sap from the tree and boil it down to make maple syrup.
The program is open to the public and no preregistration is required. If you have questions, call the Conservation Board at 465-3577.
