Government entities at all levels are working on putting their budgets together and the City of Perry is no exception.
City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says he and Finance Officer Susie Moorhead have gone through the first round of meetings with department heads to see their budget requests.
“We’ve gone through and asked for all their expenditures and what they’ve asked for capital and expenses coming up in the next fiscal year so, Susie is crunching those numbers and putting it all together. I think she has the final number from the County on what we’re expecting to receive into the general fund so she can put those together. Generally this time of year in the early part of the budget process we’re going to have expenditures that are higher than revenues. So that’s the time we show it to council and just give them an idea of what can be cut, what can’t be cut, what we can do and what’s happening with revenues” says Niebuhr.
But Niebuhr says they are optimistic about finding additional revenues especially with the recreation and parks departments moving forward.
A special City Council budget meeting has been set for 8am Thursday, January 29th in the Clarion Room of the Security Bank Building.
