Boys basketball district assignment were recently released, and ADM was placed with conference foe Carroll, Greene County and Denison-Schleswig.
Based on all of those teams records and the Tigers’ 2-11 mark, head coach Aaron Mager told Raccoon Valley Radio he believes ADM will ultimately be paired up with Carroll, which would be a third battle between the two teams named Tigers this season. ADM lost at home to Carroll, 57-48, on Dec. 12, and will seek revenge at Carroll on Tuesday.
Carroll is currently 10-2 overall and in third place in the Raccoon River standings. Greene County is 6-6 and in fifth in the ten-team Heart of Iowa conference. Denison Schleswig is 10-3 and in fourth place in the Hawkeye Ten standings.
The Tigers have lost four straight and 10 of their last 11 games, but Mager was encouraged by his team’s improvements in their loss to Pella on Tuesday, and think his squad can build momentum heading into their district game with the second games against all seven conference opponents still ahead.
“Yeah, most certainly. We have our entire conference opponent list again here coming up, starting with Winterset on Friday,” Mager said. “And that’s encouraging – I feel like we’re still improving. I saw some some good evidence [Tuesday] night at Pella that we’re still getting better. I wish we would be winning those games. We don’t want to celebrate moral victories by any means; we want to be everybody, including the Pellas, and those top 15 teams that are on our schedule.
“But I am encouraged by the fact that we’re gonna see all of conference opponents again. We’ve learned something from the first time we played them. Hopefully we can come out and make the correct adjustments.”
In fact, ADM plays all conference opponents the rest of the season until the regular season finale at Norwalk. Friday’s home contest against Winterset can be heard live on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com as part of ADM’s girl-boy doubleheader. Pregame coverage begins at 5:45 p.m.
