Perry junior Kade Van Kirk has become the veteran of the Perry wrestling team. After all, the underclassman has two state tournaments under his belt and next month will begin his journey for number three. Currently Van Kirk is second on the Bluejay roster with 29 wins on the season and is coming off a 4th place finish at last weekend’s Perry Invitational.
“Kade is really starting to turn the corner and crank it up a notch,” added Perry Head Coach Trevor Kittleson. “He has put in a lot of work on technique and that is starting to show. He is starting to turn the corner at working good technique in situations that he’s used to getting by with lower level kids but struggled with the higher class of wrestler. He has started to change that over the past couple of weeks.”
Van Kirk has been a bonus point machine this year for Perry. The 120 pounder has 21 bonus point victories on the season including a team high 14 falls. Van Kirk and the Bluejays will return to the mat tonight when they travel to Carlisle for a conference match with the Cats and a non conference bout with Des Moines Lincoln.
