Local agencies and law enforcement were busy this morning with two traffic accidents in Greene County.
According to Greene County Dispatch, a report of a single vehicle rollover accident came in at 6:55am. Chief Deputy Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio that two females were in a 2003 Ford Excursion traveling north on 130th Street and W Avenue when the 17 year-old minor from Pilot Mound slid off the road and onto the shoulder, lost a tire coming back onto the road, it then crossed over into the southbound lane and rolled into the ditch.
Both victims had to be extracted, but they were wearing their seat belts. The driver was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. Williams notes that she was semi-conscious and breathing at the time she was being transported. The passenger, a 16 year-old also from Pilot Mound was taken to Boone County Hospital for her injuries by Boone County Ambulance Service with her current status unknown at this time.
Paton, Grand Junction and Ogden fire departments, Ogden First Responders and Greene and Boone County Sheriff’s offices responded to the accident.
A second one-vehicle rollover accident was reported nearly an hour later. Sheriff Steve Haupert says a high school student was traveling on 230th Street, east of Jefferson, when his 2007 Ford Mustang slid off the road about 200-feet and struck a utility pole near T Avenue.
The 17 year-old minor was wearing his seatbelt and was taken to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for further evaluation. His current status is unknown at this time.
Department of Transportation Enforcement Officers, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue, Jefferson Fire Department, Greene County EMS and the Sheriff’s office all responded to the scene.
No charges are pending in either accident and both vehicles were total losses. Sheriff Haupert reminds everyone that when frost develops on the roads, drive under control and go a slower speed to keep yourself safe on the road.
