The Greene County Gobblers with the National Wild Turkey Federation, will be hosting their tenth annual banquet.
Treasurer Fred Long says their biggest fundraiser of the year is scheduled for Saturday, February 7th at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds. Doors will open at 5:30pm with the meal to be served at 7 and a live auction to follow.
There are about 100 silent and live auction items to bid on and several raffle prizes throughout the evening. Some of the live auction items include various prints, a floor lamp and a bench. Some of the silent auction items include several donated items from area businesses and from the NWTF. Long notes that eight guns will be raffled off as well. Last year, they raised over $14,000.
They will be recapping the programs they did in 2014 like dedicating $20,000 to purchase several thousands of parcels of land to be turned into public hunting and wildlife areas. Long states that some of the money they receive at their banquet will be used to continue to purchase more public and private land as hunting areas and introducing new hunters.
Long adds that their banquet is also their membership drive and so when you attend their event, you can sign up to be a part of their local chapter for the NWTF. The cost is $45 per person or $55 for a couple which includes the meal which is catered by Lidderdale Country Store and a year membership. Long comments that if you are a member of the NWTF, the ticket cost is reduced to $15.
Pre-registration is requested by February 1st by calling Long at 515-370-0905.
