The Guthrie Center City Council addressed the topic of employee drug testing at their meeting this week, especially in regards to volunteer fire fighters. Fire Chief David Embleton said at the meeting, that while confident all of his members would pass a urinalysis test, some of them would have issues getting to the clerk’s office to perform the test in an expedient manner, because they have other jobs and responsibilities. The council agreed to give volunteer fire fighters two weeks to submit to a drug test once it’s issued, and failure or refusal to do so could result in internal disciplinary action, up to and including suspension and termination.
