The Greene County boys’ basketball Rams have a 4-3 overall record and 4-2 mark in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference in December. Coach Jeramie Hinote’s team doesn’t play again until Jan. 6 when they meet Saydel in Des Moines. Coach Hinote reports the Rams are sixth in scoring among the 64 teams in 3A a 69.9 points per game. He added Greene County is a top 10 team in field goal percentage and in the top 15 in three-point field goals made per game. Sophomore Trey Tucker leads all of 3A in scoring average at 27.0.
The Rams are one of Class 3A’s smallest programs by enrollment and have only three more students than the largest 2A program. The Rams play in the Heart of Iowa, which is a 10-team conference with four schools in 3A and six in 2A. Coach Hinote said his team has played some good competition through its first seven games. “Gilbert is unbeaten, Perry has just one loss, and Nevada has lost twice, so we’ve played some good competition. To be 4-3 at the break with our losses to those three teams, I feel pretty good about where we’re at, I feel pretty excited about the season’s second half.”
