Scranton Mayor Rodney Walker passed away from a heart attack last week at the age of 55.

With his unfortunate death, the City Council now has to work on finding a new Mayor.

City Clerk Melinda Hinners says the Council has 60 days to fill the vacancy before a special election is held.

Walker was serving his second-term as Mayor after winning re-election in 2013.

Former Mayor and current Greene County Supervisor Dawn Rudolph says she was on the Council the last time their mayor had an untimely death.  B.A. McDonald was Mayor in 2003 and passed away in December of that year.  She adds that Jerry Boyd was Mayor Pro Tem at that time and was appointed by the Council to be the Mayor and then he resigned a short time later and she was then appointed as Mayor.  She continued to serve two additional terms after filling the vacancy.

Funeral services for Walker will be at the Church of Christ in Scranton at 10:30am tomorrow morning.
