The Dallas County Conservation Board is hoping to host another popular program outdoors this winter, but it all depends on the weather.
The Quinzee Building program works on an on-call basis, meaning that those interested in participating sign up with their email address and are notified when there is enough packable snow to build. Attendees will then meet at the Kuehn Conservation Area at a designated time.
Quinzees are shelters made by hallowing out a big pile of snow. Basically, it’s a cross between an igloo and a snow cave. When built correctly, these shelters can be warmer than a tent.
Anyone interested in signing up for the on-call program should call the conservation board at 465-3577.
