Guthrie Center is in the market for a mechanical street sweeper, and Street Department head Bob Secoy says the City of Newton has a promising one on a public auction website. Secoy told the city council at Monday’s meeting that he has about twenty five thousand dollars to put towards a street sweeper, and would like to put in a bid for the 2007 mechanical sweeper that Newton is currently selling. If they acquired the newer mechanical sweeper, Secoy told the council that he would still like to hold on to the city’s old vacuum sweeper, because it’s great for cleaning out small cracks and crevices.
