Everyone is invited to the next monthly program for the Greene County Historical Society later this week.
Member Chuck Offenburger says the program will be about the county’s cemeteries and their unique markings and headstones. The program, “Silent Cities” will be presented by Karen Pound, the current billing clerk for the City of Jefferson. More than a decade ago, Pound gave several cemetery presentations of her photographs of the different cemeteries. She says she has always been interested in cemeteries and the different markings the headstones have on them and the stories that are behind them.
Greene County currently has 29 cemeteries of which 19 are still active.
The program will be at the historical museum in Jefferson at 1pm on Friday, November 7th. A soup supper meal will be served prior to the program at noon for a $5 fee. Reservations for the meal must be made today to a historical society member.
A business meeting will follow the presentation.
