ADM Volleyball has just one obstacle in its way of a state tournament berth, the Lewis Central Titans. The No. 10 Tigers and Titans square off at 7 p.m tonight at Atlantic High School in the Class 4A – Region 3 championship game.
ADM swept Norwalk in a hard-fought match on Thursday in Adel for the opportunity to be one of eight teams headed to the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids for the State Tournament. Like ADM, Lewis Central had a first-round bye and also swept its opponent, the Creston Panthers, on Thursday at home.
Tigers head coach Mary Beth Scott said the high volume of close games ADM has played in this season — especially the win over Norwalk — has them prepared for a physically demanding match against a battle-tested Lewis Central team. Scott said the Raccoon River Conference is a highly competitive division and that ADM played a tough non-conference schedule. Lewis Central, at 22-14, also comes from a highly-competitive conference, the Hawkeye 10 Conference.
For example, the Hawkeye 10 Conference includes Creston, which was at one time was ranked, as well as Harlan, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 4A.
Scott said ADM’s game plan is centered around stopping a tough Lewis Central front line.
“They have a tall front row. They have very good outside hitters, so we’re going to have to make sure that we hit against one block, so we need to make sure we’re running some quicks and keeping them off-balance,” Scott said. “We need to serve aggressively, hopefully throw off their offense by just getting them out of system, and that’s going to be a real goal for us. And then just playing good defense and keep attacking them and keeping them having to work for it.”
We’ll have all the action from Atlantic on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com. First tip is at 7 p.m., when ADM and Lewis Central battle for a state tournament berth.
