There are five candidates running for two seats on the Greene County Board of Supervisors.

District #2 candidates includes Republican incumbent Dawn Rudolph, Democrat challenger Kevin Fitzpatrick Sr. and Independent Shane Olson.

Rudolph is from the Scranton area and is seeking another term as Supervisor.  She wants to continue to spend the county’s tax money wisely and believes the Supervisors have done so responsibly since she’s been on the Board.  She also wants to continue to make the county a safe place for people to work, live and play.  She serves on the regional mental health board and has worked with 4-H for over 20 years.

Fitzpatrick Sr. has held several leadership positions including being the Churdan fire chief, been on the Paton-Churdan School Board and the director of Farm Service Agency.  He wants to serve everyone in the county, not just the farmers and he believes that his leadership experience can help drive that motivation.

Olson is from Churdan and is a veteran, having served in the Marine Corp and also with the National Guard.  He is also an assistant fire chief for the State of Iowa Fire Department.  He describes one goal he has if he is elected as Supervisor.

“I would like to see our county employees along with the Sheriff’s office become more competitive based on their salaries and with the surrounding counties.  With the growth that we’re facing, as this time, we need to keep the knowledge and leadership of the officers that we have and pay them for that knowledge and leadership.”

In the other race for District #3, that features Republican incumbent Tom Contner going up against Democrat challenger Randy Monthei.

Contner is running for another term as Supervisor.  He wants to continue to keep taxes low in the county and doesn’t want the Environmental Protection Agency take control of the waterways because it won’t allow farmers to install drainage lines and no cattle will be able to graze on pastures that contain creeks and other waterways.

Monthei believes his unique experience of being a businessman, a former City Councilman and participating on several economic committees can bring a different perspective as a Supervisor.  He wants to carefully look at how the county is spending its money and the benefits of what is spent on it.  He says one of his goals as Supervisor is to establish a county-wide animal shelter and that there needs to be a full time animal control person in place so that the Sheriff’s office isn’t tied down with animal-related calls.
