Perry took the opening drive of the game and went 84 yards in 20 plays, running 10:12 off the clock, but had to settle for an Ivan Garcia 26 yard field goal for a 3-0 lead. Carroll responded with a drive that was capped off with a 12 yard TD pass from Addison Ross to Payton Renning early in the 2nd quarter to make the score 7-3. On Perry’s next possession they were forced to punt deep in their territory and a bad snap lead to a safety and Carroll was up 9-3. On the ensuing Carroll drive, Ross went 31 yards for a TD and a 16-3 lead. They would add one TD before half to lead 23-3 at the break.

Carroll wasted little time getting on the board in the 3rd quarter when they scored with less than a minute gone on a 46 yard TD pass from Ross to Mason Millard. The extra point was missed but Carroll’s lead 29-3. After defensive end Solomon Pierce recovered Perry’s first fumble of the year later in the 3rd quarter, Perry took off on a 12 play drive that ended with a Will Whiton 1 yard TD run on 4th and goal. Ross ended his big night with 2 more TDs, one on a 14 yard run and the last one a 42 yard return of an interception late in the 4th quarter.

Ross was 12-16 for 186 yards, with a TD and an interception by Whiton, his 3rd on the year. He added 59 yards rushing on 5 carries with the 2 TDs.

Perry was led by Whiton’s 82 yards rushing on 25 attempts and the TD. Blake Jans added 41 yards on 17 carries and had 2 receptions for 33 yards. Defensive lineman Joe Olvera continued his strong play with 8 solo tackles and assisted on 3 others. Linebacker Hunter Brobst and Safety Kade Van Kirk each had 5 solo tackles and three assists to lead the Perry D.

Next for the Bluejays is their longest road trip of the season as they head to Algona to take on the winless Bulldogs. Perry will take 2-3 record overall and 1-1 district record into the game where our coverage will begin at 7PM with the Jason Olejniczak Pre-Game Show followed by kickoff at 7:30.
