Terrific weather greeted runners and spectators at Thursday’s 41st Annual Panorama Cross-Country Invitational near Panora on the Panorama Par Three Golf Course. The course was muddy in places due to heavy rainfall in recent weeks, but some 270 high school runners, and many other middle schoolers took part in the meet.

The Panorama girls, ranked eighth in Class 1A placed first in the Class A four kilometer (2.48 miles) event with 34 points. Greene County, ranked sixth in 2A, was second with 66, followed by IKM-Manning 75, Des Moines Christian 78, West Central Valley (Stuart) 89, and Carlisle 158.

Earlham won the Class B girls title with 36 points, followed by Tri-Center (Neola) 91, Woodbine 94, Audubon 116, Colo-NESCO 132, Mount Ayr 145, Boyer Valley (Dunlap) 149, Southwest Iowa 151, and Van Meter 193.

On the boys’ side, Carlisle was the five kilometers (3.1 miles) Class A winner with 49 points, just ahead of DMC at 51. Ogden was third with 69 points, followed by Panorama 100, Greene County 130, WCV 133, IKM-Manning 151, and Clarke (Osceola) 195.

Nodaway Valley (Greenfield) won Class B for boys with 23 points and T-C was second at 83. BV had 101 with 113 for Earlham, 153 by Audubon, 171 for VM, Adair-Casey/CAM (Anita) 174, C-N 200, Woodbine 229, Orient-Macksburg 264, Grand View Christian (Des Moines) 281, and 294 for Paton-Churdan.

Individually, Payton Sporrer of IKM-Manning won the girls Class A race in 16:41.46. Panorama went two-three-four with Devyn Kemble, Hannah Appleseth, and Bri Hoffman. Olivia Hansen paced Greene County by finishing seventh and Emily Christensen of the Rams was tenth.

Destiny Scar of NV won the girls’ Class B title in 16:53.45.

Ogden’s Trey Thompson won the title in Class A for boys in 17:41.68. Sam Bassett of Panorama was seventh and Rylan Heffernan of WCV finished in tenth place. Landon Braun of Greene County was twelfth and Logan Egeland of the Rams fourteenth.

Shane Breheny of NV was first among Class B boys in 18:03.13. All five scoring runners for Nodaway Valley placed among the top seven.
